II. Na czym polega nabożeństwo do Maryi?

[A. Podstawowe prawdy nabożeństwa do Najświętszej Dziewicy]

60. Mówiliśmy dotychczas o konieczności nabożeństwa do Najświętszej Dziewicy. Teraz z Bożą pomocą wytłumaczę, na czym to nabożeństwo polega. Najpierw jednak podam kilka prawd zasadniczych, które to wzniosłe i tak gruntownie uzasadnione nabożeństwo postawią we właściwym świetle.

[Jezus Chrystus jest ostatecznym celem wszelkiej naszej pobożności.]

61. Pierwsza prawda: Jezus Chrystus, nasz Zbawiciel, prawdziwy Bóg i prawdziwy człowiek, musi być ostatecznym celem wszelkiej naszej pobożności, inaczej byłaby ona fałszywa i zwodnicza. Jezus Chrystus to Alfa i Omega (57), Początek i Koniec wszystkiego. Pracujemy to, jak mówi Apostoł, by każdego człowieka uczynić doskonałym w Jezusie Chrystusie, gdyż tylko w Nim mieszka cała pełnia Bóstwa i cała pełnia łaski, cnoty i doskonałości.

     Tylko w Nim otrzymaliśmy pełnię błogosławieństwa duchowego. Chrystus jest naszym jedynym Mistrzem, który ma nas nauczać; jedynym Panem, od którego zależymy; jedyną Głową, z którą mamy być zjednoczeni; jedynym Wzorem, do którego mamy się upodobnić; naszym jedynym Lekarzem, który ma nas uzdrowić; jedynym Pasterzem, który ma nas żywić; jedyną Drogą, która ma nas prowadzić; jedyną Prawdą, której musimy wierzyć; jedynym Życiem, które ma nas ożywiać; słowem – jest naszym jedynym Wszystkim we wszystkim, które ma nam wystarczyć. Albowiem nie dano ludziom pod niebem żadnego innego Imienia, w którym moglibyśmy być zbawieni. Bóg nie położył innego fundamentu dla naszego zbawienia, dla naszej doskonałości i naszej chwały, niż Jezusa Chrystusa. Każda budowla, która nie spoczywa na tej Opoce, stoi na lotnym piasku i wcześniej czy później runie. Każdy wierny, który nie trwa w Nim jak latorośl w winnym szczepie, opadnie, uschnie i będzie wart tylko wrzucenia w ogień. Gdy jesteśmy w Jezusie Chrystusie, a Jezus Chrystus jest w nas, nie potrzebujemy obawiać się potępienia. Ani aniołowie w niebie, ani ludzie na ziemi, ani demony w piekle, ani jakiekolwiek inne stworzenie nie może nam szkodzić, bo nie może nas odłączyć od miłości Bożej, która jest w Jezusie Chrystusie. Przez Niego, z Nim i w Nim możemy wszystko: możemy oddać Bogu Ojcu w jedności Ducha Świętego wszelką cześć i chwałę (58); stać się doskonałymi; a dla naszego bliźniego – być miłą wonią Chrystusową na żywot wieczny.

62. Jeśli więc ustanawiamy doskonałe nabożeństwo do Najświętszej Dziewicy, to jedynie po to, by nasze nabożeństwo do Jezusa Chrystusa stało się gruntowniejsze i doskonalsze oraz by podać łatwy i pewny środek do znalezienia Chrystusa. Gdyby nabożeństwo do Najświętszej Dziewicy oddalało nas od Jezusa Chrystusa, to trzeba by je odrzucić jako złudzenie szatańskie. Tymczasem rzecz ma się przeciwnie, jak to już wykazałem i jeszcze wykażę. Nabożeństwo to jest konieczne, ale po to, by Jezusa Chrystusa całkowicie znaleźć, ukochać Go i wiernie Mu służyć.

63. Mój umiłowany Jezu, tu zwracam się do Ciebie, by serdecznie użalić się przed Twym Majestatem, że większość chrześcijan, nawet spośród bardzo uczonych, nie rozumie koniecznej łączności, jaka istnieje między Tobą a Twą świętą Matką. Ty, Panie, zawsze jesteś z Maryją, a Maryja zawsze jest z Tobą i bez Ciebie być nie może; inaczej przestałaby być tym, czym jest. Łaska tak Ją przekształciła w Ciebie, że już nie Ona żyje i nie Ona jest, ale Ty, mój Jezu, żyjesz i królujesz w Niej doskonalej niż we wszystkich aniołach i błogosławionych. Gdyby ludzie znali chwałę i miłość, jakie otrzymujesz w tej przedziwnej Istocie, zaprawdę, przyjmowaliby Ciebie i Ją z zupełnie innymi uczuciami. Maryja jest tak ściśle z Tobą zjednoczona, że łatwiej byłoby oddzielić światło od słońca i żar od ognia, a nawet – powiem śmiało – prędzej można by odłączyć od Ciebie wszystkich aniołów i błogosławionych, aniżeli Twą błogosławioną Matkę, gdyż Ona goręcej Cię kocha i doskonalej Cię sławi niż wszelkie inne stworzenia razem.

64. Czyż nie jest to godne pożałowania, najmilszy mój Mistrzu, gdy się widzi panujące na ziemi ciemnotę i nieuświadomienie względem Twej świętej Matki? Nie mówię tu o bałwochwalcach i poganach, którzy Ciebie nie znając, nie starają się też poznać Jej. Nie mówię również o heretykach i odszczepieńcach, co odłączywszy się od Ciebie i Twego świętego Kościoła, nie troszczą się o nabożeństwo do Twej świętej Matki. Mówię tu o chrześcijanach katolikach, a nawet, wśród katolików uczonych, którzy ucząc prawd innych ludzi, znają Ciebie i Twoją świętą Matkę chyba tylko czysto rozumowo, sucho i obojętnie. Rzadko kiedy mówią o Twej świętej Matce i o nabożeństwie, jakie do Niej mieć powinniśmy, ponieważ, jak twierdzą, lękają się, by go nie nadużyto, a Tobie nie uchybiono, oddając cześć Twej świętej Matce zbyt wielką. Kiedy widzą lub słyszą że jakiś czciciel Najświętszej Dziewicy często mówi o nabożeństwie do tej dobrej Matki z czułością, siłą i przekonaniem, jako o środku pewnym i wolnym od złudzeń, jako o drodze krótkiej i bezpiecznej, jako o ścieżce niepokalanej i o cudownej tajemnicy, by Cię odnaleźć i doskonale umiłować – wnet powstają przeciwko niemu i przytaczają tysiące fałszywych dowodów, by mu wykazać, że nie powinien tyle mówić o Najświętszej Dziewicy; że pod tym względem dzieją się wielkie nadużycia; że należy starać się, by je usunąć. Twierdzą, iż trzeba raczej mówić o Tobie, pobudzać wiernych do nabożeństwa do Najświętszej Dziewicy, którą kochają wystarczająco.

     Niekiedy rozprawiają o nabożeństwie do Twej świętej Matki, ale nie po to, aby je rozszerzać, lecz by usuwać nadużycia, jakich w nim rzekomo upatrują. Tymczasem brak im pobożności i gorącego nabożeństwa nawet do Ciebie, Panie, a to dlatego, że nie znają Maryi. Uważają Koronkę, Szkaplerz i Różaniec za nabożeństwa odpowiednie dla umysłów słabych i dla ludzi ciemnych, zbędne więc do dla osiągnięcia zbawienia. A gdy spotkają kogoś z różańcem w ręku, zaraz starają się odmienić jego myśli i uczucia. Zamiast Różańca zalecają mu odmawianie siedmiu psalmów pokutnych, w miejsce nabożeństwa do Najświętszej Dziewicy – nabożeństwo do Jezusa Chrystusa.

     O, mój najmilszy Jezu, czyż ci ludzie mają Twego Ducha? Czy są oni Tobie mili, tak postępując? Czy może Ci być miły, kto nie dokłada wszelkich starań, aby przypodobać się Twej Matce, z obawy, by Tobie nie sprawić przykrości? Czyż nabożeństwo do Twej świętej Matki jest przeszkodą w nabożeństwie do Ciebie? Czy Maryja przywłaszcza sobie oddawaną Jej cześć? Czy stanowi Ona coś odrębnego od Ciebie? Czy jest Ci obca, nie mając z Tobą żadnej łączności? Czyż może nie podobać się Tobie ten, kto pragnie Jej się przypodobać? Czyż oddając się Jej i kochając Ją, odłączamy się lub oddalamy od Twojej miłości?

65. Jednakże, mój umiłowany Mistrzu, większość tych uczonych nie zdoła odwieść nas od nabożeństwa do Najświętszej Panny i sprawić, byśmy stali się wobec niego obojętni, i to będzie dla nich upokorzenie za ich pychę. Ustrzeż mnie, Panie, ustrzeż od ich uczuć i praktyk, a daj mi udział we wdzięczności, poważaniu, szacunku i miłości, które Ty sam okazujesz Twej świętej Matce, abym Ciebie miłował i chwalił tym więcej, im dokładniej będę Cię naśladował i im bliżej przy Tobie będę kroczył.

66. Jeżeli dotąd nic jeszcze nie powiedziałem na cześć Twej świętej Matki, uczyń mnie godnym, ażebym Ją chwalił: Fac me digne tuam matrem collaudare (59) – wbrew wszystkim wrogom, którzy przecież i Twoimi są wrogami; abym ze świętymi radośnie mógł powiedzieć: Non praesumat aliquis Deum se habere propitium, qui benedictam matrem offensam habuerit – Niech się nie spodziewa Miłosierdzia Bożego, kto Jego świętą Matkę obraża (60).

67. Abym zaś z Twojego miłosierdzia otrzymał łaskę doskonałego nabożeństwa do Twej świętej Matki i mógł je rozkrzewiać po całej ziemi, spraw: niech Cię ukocham gorącą miłością. Przyjmij żarliwą modlitwę, którą ze św. Augustynem zanoszę do Ciebie:

Tu es Christus, Pater meus sanctus, Deus meus pius, Rex meus magnus, pastor meus bonus, magister meus unus, adiutor meus optimus, dilectus meus pulcherrimus, panis meus vivus, sacerdos meus in aeternum, dux meus ad patriam, lux mea vera, dulcedo mea sancta, via mea recta, sapientia mea praeclara, simplicitas mea pura, concordia mea pacifica, custodia mea tota, portio mea bona, salus mea sempiterna.

Christe Jesu, amabilis Domine, cur amavi, quare concupivi in omni vita mea quidquam praeter te Jesum Deum meum? Ubi eram quando tecum mente non eram? Jam ex hoc nunc, omnia desideria mea, incalescite et effluite in Dominum Jesum; currite, satis hactenus tardastis; properate quo pergitis; quaerite quem quaeritis. Jesu, qui non amat te, anathema sit; qui te non amat amaritudinibus repleatur… O dulcis Jesu, te amet, in te delectetur, te admiretur omnis sensus bonus tuae conveniens laudi. Deus cordis mei et pars mea, Christe Jesu, deficiat cor meum spiritu suo, et vivas tu in me, et concalescat in spiritu meo vivus carbo amoris tui, et excrescat in ignem perfectum; ardeat iugiter in ara cordis mei, ferveat in medullis meis, flagret in absconditis animae meae; in die consummationis meae consummatus inveniar apud te… Amen.

Tyś jest Chrystus, Ojciec mój święty, mój Bóg litościwy, mój wielki Król, mój Pasterz dobry, Mistrz mój jedyny, Wspomożyciel mój najlepszy, Umiłowany mój przepiękny, mój Chleb Żywy, mój Kapłan na wieki, Przewodnik mój do Ojczyzny, ma Światłość prawdziwa, Słodycz moja święta, moja Droga prosta, moja Mądrość jasnością lśniąca, Prostota nieskalana, mój Pokój niezmącony, cała Straż moja, Dziedzictwo me drogie, moje wieczne Zbawienie.

Chryste Jezu, mój najmilszy Panie, czemuż w całym swym życiu pragnąłem i kochałem cokolwiek prócz Ciebie, Boga mego? Gdzież byłem, kiedy myślą i sercem nie byłem z Tobą? Odtąd będzie inaczej. Wszystkie moje pragnienia, rozpalajcie się i ulatujcie do Pana Jezusa. Biegnijcie, dość już zwłoki; śpiesznie zmierzajcie do celu waszego; szukajcie Tego, którego szukacie. Jezu, niech wyklęty będzie, kto Ciebie nie kocha; niech przepełniony będzie goryczą, kto Ciebie nie miłuje… O, słodki Jezu, niech Cię ukocha, niech rozraduje się w Tobie, niech Cię podziwia wszelki rozum oddany chwale Twojej. Boże serca mego i cząstko moja, Chryste Jezu, niech umrze w sercu moim własny mój duch, a żyj we mnie Ty. Niech się rozpali we wnętrzu moim żywy węgiel Twojej miłości; niech się wzmaga i rozpali ogniem potężnym; niechaj się pali nieustannie na ołtarzu serca mego; niech żarzy się we wnętrznościach moich i niech w głębi duszy mojej płonie. Obym w dniu skonania mego stanął doskonały przed Obliczem Twoim… Amen.
